This past week I became very excited when I came across a post on Instagram posted by @familyeverafter regarding a contest Sewvivor 3: Quilters Edition.
If you are wondering what Sewvivor is, here is the description of the contest in her own words by Rach @famailyeverafter
What is Sewvivor?
It's a sewing competition that I created on my
blog, and its loosely inspired by the show Survivor. We've had two successful
seasons so far, with some outstanding sewing and competitors. The main idea is
that anyone can audition, "sewlebrity" judges help choose our contestants, we
have 4 weeks of sewing competition with specific challenges, and a couple
Sewvivor "twists" along the way. The judges and public vote for their favorites
after each challenge. The winners score some amazing prizes at the end.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love reality television. Since my best friend, Pam, will not audition with me for The Amazing Race, I thought here is my chance to participate in a competition. I enjoy watching Survivor but know I would never make it, too many bugs, snakes and cat fights. I knew Sewvivor was for me.
So this is why I am stepping out of my comfort zone and started a blog a few days ago, this is one of the requirements of the contest. I have been quilting for about 14 years and have had my longarm machine for around 11 years and have enjoyed every minute at my sewing machine.
I would like to share with you my audition quilt.
EUREKA
When I made this quilt, it was to enter in my first quilt show in 2007. I had taken a class and made a lap size quilt and swore I would never make another one. Well, I did, and it was a king size and it won Best of Show at the Charlotte Quilters Guild.
It also won Best of Show in the Blennerhassett Museum Quilt Show, 2nd place at the HMQS Quilt Show in Utah and won honorable mention at the NQA Quilt Show in Ohio.
I am really proud of this quilt and never dreamed of winning a ribbon.
I done all the quilting on my longarm machine.
This picture gives a perspective of the size of this quilt.
It measures 105" x 105"
Thanks goes out to my granddaughter and husband for climbing the ladders in the 95 degree heat.
I hope you enjoyed my quilt and I would be so excited to make it in the top 16 contestants.
Please follow along on the contest whether I make it or not.
The pattern for this quilt is Eureka by Jackie Robinson

WOW.
ReplyDeletethose colors laid out in that order really make that quilt pop.
great job on that quilt!
best of luck to you in the auditions!
Thank you Emily, I am so glad I went with the greens, it really made the pink and brown pop.
DeleteSo many wonderful DETAILS! Wonderful work. Best, Kate
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate.
DeleteHoly Moly! The picture with two ladders really made my jaw drop. So did the up close pictures. This is so detailed and beautiful. No wonder it won several ribbons! I'm so glad you entered Sewvivor, and not the Amazing Race. Ok, that would be cool too. haha!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rach. My granddaughter was not thrilled about sitting on the ladder, the things we ask our family to do for our love of quilting. I am excited about Sewvivor, I hope to make it, if not, I will be following along.
